R&D SCIENTIFIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST

R&D Utrecht Full-time Netherlands

Job Description

To start with, the position of Scientific Affairs Specialist sits comfortably in Global Food Compliance team at Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) Peet's. An incredibly diverse team that helps each other learn, grow and develop. Just how we like it! As a Scientific Affairs Specialist you will be asked to focus on identifying and evaluating food safety developments, as well as on forward looking scouting and risk assessment of the impact of (new) food safety regulations on  JDEP’s products globally. You will provide scientific evaluations, advise the business and drive strategy to ensure continued food safety and regulatory compliance, while minimizing the impact on other business aspects.

For this, we don’t just need you to be a knowledgeable professional but also strongly rely on your interpersonal skills as well as your drive for success. Know that you’ll have a crucial role in creating and protecting the impact we look for in our value chain. With this said, we like you to take responsibility over the following tasks:

  • Monitor and anticipate developments, as well as act as an advisor and drive strategy for future planning. This includes up-to-date policies, procedures and guidance when it comes to food safety.
  • Ensure that Food Safety Authority evaluations on new and re-emerging food safety risks are proactively addressed, initiate risk mitigation actions when required.
  • Support the annual monitoring plan with the Global Quality Team, assess the results and follow up on deviations
  • Lead scientific evaluations to enable strategic business decisions.
  • Maintain and create relationships with cross-functional teams, stakeholders and key decision makers, both internally and externally

Qualifications

We are looking for an accountable, disciplined and experienced candidate with at least 7 years of experience in the field, who thrives in stressful environments and has a strong drive for excellence. Someone that pushes the boundaries, feels comfortable with ambiguity and doesn’t shy away from responsibility. Given the nature of the role we feel it's important for you to have a certain level of seniority as well as a solid understanding of your own added value. We thrive in diverse teams and look for people that appreciate that as much as we do. We can give you a list of “must haves,” however that’s not how we view your candidacy. We do, of course, take into consideration how much experience you have with performing thorough and scientifically based analysis in food safety and health related topics but ultimately, we look at the bigger picture. But to give you a bit of guidance as to what we feel is needed in this role, we’ll share our “nice to have” list with you:

  • Good knowledge and risk analysis skills on food safety hazards, including chemical contaminants
  • Good understanding of the concept of food safety regulations
  • High experience in trade associations and good interaction in senior business levels
  • High proficiency in data analysis tools such as PowerBI
