Global Business Development Director

General Management Utrecht Full-time Netherlands

Job Description

The Global Business Development (GBD) team is dedicated to introducing new consumers around the world to our brands and coffee range via our distributor/partner export network, where JDE does not have a direct presence. GBD markets span diverse geographies: Eastern Adriatic markets, Finland, Iceland, Malta, USA & Canada, Latin America, Israel, the Middle East, Morocco, Northern Africa, and others.

The key objective is to grow and develop these markets across various channels: online, retail, and professional. The long-term goal for most of these markets is to develop them to a scale that justifies setting up a direct JDE presence.

The Global Business Development Director is responsible for driving all business activities within the identified export countries, managing close relationships with key distributors and partners, and developing the geo-expansion strategy. This role holds full P&L responsibility for the export countries and is tasked with meeting all KPIs as per the company’s objectives.

The GBD Director will oversee the integration of retail and professional businesses, identifying synergies across these channels and discovering white spaces within the portfolio for further development. The role will also explore opportunities to expand the professional or retail channels where applicable.

Key Responsiblities:

  • Business Development Strategy: Designs the business development strategy, product portfolio, and go-to-market approach for all identified export countries across retail and professional channels, including online.
  • Revenue & P&L Management: Responsible for sales revenue and full P&L ownership within existing export countries.
  • Geo-Expansion Strategy: Identifies new export opportunities in countries without an existing JDE presence and develops strategies for market entry and long-term growth.
  • Distributor & Partner Management: Leads the selection, negotiation, and management of distributors and partners. Accountable for negotiating, signing, and managing contracts to drive sustainable and profitable business growth.
  • Execution of Growth Strategy: Drives the execution of the export sales strategy, focusing on sales growth, category development, profitability, and market share expansion in alignment with the company’s global growth agenda. Ensures alignment with financial and non-financial performance targets (AOP, ZBB goals, cost management, and process efficiency across functions).
  • Annual Operating Plan (AOP) & Financial Oversight: Prepares and aligns the AOP and VCP with MEA leadership, ensuring strategic alignment with short-term cost savings and financial targets.
  • Cost Management: Ensures cost synergies and efficiencies within the export organization while streamlining costs to meet financial objectives.
  • Brand Positioning & Market Penetration: Ensures optimum positioning of both global and local brands across export markets to drive sustainable sales growth and financial results. Leverages central guidelines (e.g., pricing strategy) while adapting to local market needs.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilizes data analytics and market insights to identify opportunities, manage risks, and guide the overall strategy. Drives continuous improvement through performance analysis and insights.

Key Competencies:

  • Digital & E-Commerce Expertise: Proficiency in digital transformation and e-commerce strategies, including DTC models and e-retailers, to unlock growth across online channels.
  • Cross-Channel Integration: Ability to identify and exploit synergies between retail and professional businesses, and develop omnichannel strategies.
  • Stakeholder Management & Partnership Building: Proven ability to manage complex global relationships with distributors, partners, and stakeholders, ensuring long-term collaboration and success.
  • Agility in Emerging Markets: Experience in navigating regulatory complexities, high-growth environments, and setting up distribution networks in challenging markets.
  • Change Management: Expertise in managing organizational transitions, including M&A integrations and aligning retail and professional businesses.
  • Data Analytics & Market Insights: Skilled in leveraging data-driven market intelligence and forecasting tools to inform strategy and improve decision-making.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of P&L management and cost optimization to deliver profitability while driving top-line growth.
  • Innovation & Product Development: Experience in developing innovative product portfolios tailored to diverse geographies and channel-specific needs.
  • Sustainability Leadership: Experience driving sustainable business practices in line with corporate social responsibility goals.
